"To miss what I never knew"

Poem by Emilie, Denmark.
Submitted May 3, 2005.

People around me don’t understand
How can I miss a person who I’ve never seen
It’s not that simple, and it’s never been
A person who gave me away
Without a letter and nothing to say I try to explain
But it can’t be explained with words
If I ever will succeed
Write down why this
An empty space
Appears in the very body of mine
I won’t believe my written words
Cos’ I’ve been told that the words of the love
Those I now search
Won’t go easy, it hurts

It’s been a while since I’ve been thinking
It’s been a while since I’ve started missing
I’ve never heard your voice or seen your face
I’ve never felt your hands in mine
I’ve never felt the warm of your body
I have thousands of questions
And a thousand of answers must be out there
But I am sure they will never reach me
Over here

I want you to see what I can do
I want you to see what I’ve become
I want to know where I’m from
I want to know why I look like this
Why my face is formed as it is

I know you cared about me
I know you loved me
I know you did what was best
But I always wonder how you could be sure
That your soul and heart
Would ever again rest

I wonder if you think of me
When I think of you
I wonder if every time I cry a tear
You cry one too
