Scott Hamilton
When Scott was six weeks old, he was adopted by Ernest and Dorothy Hamilton of Bowling Green, Ohio. As a result of a mysterious illness at age two, he stopped growing. Eventually, a special diet and exercise resolved the problem and he began growing again.
His love of skating began when he watched his older sister ice skate and decided to try skating himself. He found that he had a talent for skating and at age 13, determined to compete nationally, he started training with a former Olympic champion.
In 1978 Scott placed third in the U.S. Championships, the first of the many medals he has won. From 1981 through 1983, he was the Gold medalist in both the U.S. and World Championships. The highlight of his career came in 1984 when he took the Gold in the Winter Olympics at Sarajevo along with the U.S. and World titles.
After turning professional, he toured with the Ice Capades for two years and then founded "Scott Hamilton's American Tour," later named "Stars on Ice," which has become an immensely popular extravaganza. In 1990, Scott was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
