Lynette Cole
Lynette Cole was crowned Miss USA 2000. Lynette was born on February 9, 1978. In childhood, she was labeled a "slow learner," but that didn't stop her from reaching her dreams. Lynette and her brother Sean were living in foster care when their parents, Gail and Larry Cole, adopted them. The family lived in Michigan. Lynette's heritage is Puerto Rican and Caucasian. The Michigan courts refused to allow the adoption because Lynette was of a different race from the Coles. Her parents left their jobs and their home, to move to a state where they would be able to adopt. Lynette's family also included two birth children. Her parents were also foster parents to over 100 children (not all at the same time.)
When she entered the Miss USA pageant, Lynette was a pre-law student, studying to become a child-advocate lawyer. She had also worked as a model, a teacher, and a community service volunteer. As winner of the title Miss USA, Lynette received a silver Camaro, a year's supply of make up, and a $ 5,000 scholarship.
She traveled extensively and made appearances on behalf of many charities. Use your favorite search engine or visit your library to learn more about Lynette Cole.
